Faces of Promoboxx: Meet Evonne Wetzner

Meet Promoboxx’s new Director of Retailer Engagement, Evonne Wetzner! We are so excited to welcome her to our team, and to get to know Evonne better, we asked her a few questions. Check out her answers below!

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

For the last 3 ½ years, I worked in Market and Brand Strategy in the wine and spirits industry – creating products and formulating marketing concepts for value-driven spirit and wine brands. A lot of project management, creative direction and hands-on campaign/package design experience. Very fun stuff!

Evonne Wetzner

Welcome, Evonne!

Prior to that, I founded and owned an independent video store (The Video Underground) for about a decade in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. The business grew out of my love for film and the desire to build a business connecting the local community with resources to access independent cinema that they might not otherwise be able to see (and for filmmakers to have an opportunity to share their work through our screening room and backyard film series). I sold it in 2011, and it’s currently the only independent video store that still exists in Boston.

What made you want to join the Promoboxx team?

When I first learned about Promoboxx, it resonated as an extremely useful resource.

As a former retailer, I think the opportunity to have awesome digital marketing resources available saves valuable time – making social media marketing more accessible to folks who might not have yet learned the ropes and presenting retailers with tools to develop and own their marketing tactics.

Coming more recently from the brand-side, the Promoboxx platform offers a powerful reach extension to local markets and an easy way to share cohesive marketing campaigns maintaining all brand identity standards and messaging.

I’m excited to support retailers by helping them understand and get the most out of the platform!

What’s your favorite independent business in Boston?

Oh man, so many…I’m a food nerd, so I’d have to say Formaggio (South End or Cambridge) is one of my old standby’s. I can browse in there forever. The cheese samples don’t hurt either! Gotta also give a shout out to my friends at City Feed + Supply in JP! An inspiration for all local business owners and a fab collaborative partner from my Video Underground days.

Deserted on an island, what three things do you bring?

Fire, some sort of big knife, an endless supply of rosé.

Best book you’ve ever read?

Jerusalem: A Cookbook – It’s a game changer (and so pretty).

What do you admire most in a brand?

Fierce independence and the willingness to stand out from the pack.

What is one of your favorite things to do in Boston?

Walk the city. Having grown up in Boston, one of my favorite things about this small city is the ease in which you can navigate by foot across town, through the distinct local neighborhoods.

What is something that not many people know about you?

I have an advanced certification in wine and spirits. I’m also a “reformed” crazy cat lady and wear the names of my cats (RIP) – Luna & Dawg – on my arm tattoo.

Do you have any hobbies?

Wine, cooking, documentary film and hanging out with my “spirited” 6 year old daughter, Sadie and her more mellow baby sister, Siena.
