How to Celebrate Black History Month on Social Media

In 1976, the United States designated February as Black History Month, a month where Americans celebrate the history, achievements, and influence of the Black community.

Although BHM was not designated until 1976, the origin of Black History Month can be traced back to 1915 when the ASALH was formed by Dr. Carter G. Woodson.

Ways to Celebrate Black History Month on Social Media

As you plan your Black History Month content this year, here are three different ways to show up on social media:

  1. Support the Community – BHM is an opportunity to raise awareness about local community initiatives and offer ongoing support.  Additionally, as a Promoboxx brand, it is a great opportunity to support your Black-Owned businesses within your retailer network with additional social media content. Example: Consider creating a Paid Ads campaign for your Black-Owned Businesses.
  2. History & Noteworthy Facts – History facts are a great way to celebrate Black History Month on social media. Example: if you’re a small business, you could talk about America’s first female self-made millionaire, Madam C.J. Walker.

  3. Quote Posts- Inspirational quotes are frequently shared on social media because they can drive engagement for brands. There are many inspirational Black voices and leaders to spotlight for Black History Month. Find some examples here.

Black History Month is an opportunity to raise awareness and connect with your audience on a deeper level.

Diversity in marketing is important to both Millennials and Gen Z. With huge buying power, these generations will drive spending habits in the years to come.

By creating a solid social media strategy, you’ll be helping to create a more inclusive digital space in 2022 – and beyond.
