Retailer Spotlight: Built for the Long Haul – Indiana Trailer Company’s Road to Success

When opportunity meets a strong sense of community and a willingness to get your hands dirty, incredible things can happen. That’s exactly what drove Ben Wernert, owner of Indiana Trailer Company, to turn a casual Facebook sale into a thriving small business rooted in customer care, consistency, and local pride.

From Auto to Trailers — A Leap of Faith

After 25 years in automotive retail, including part ownership in Kia dealerships in Birmingham, Alabama, Ben decided it was time to come home to southern Indiana. What started as a simple move turned into an unexpected career change and a new passion.

“I had a little utility trailer I used for hauling a side-by-side,” Ben shared. “I listed it on Facebook and sold it for $500 more than I paid. I joked to my wife, ‘I wish I could do that for a living.’”

That joke soon became reality. After discovering a well-run trailer dealership in Alabama, Ben realized he could bring the same model to Indiana. Just eight months later, he opened his doors as the sole employee, ready to serve his community with quality trailers and genuine service.

Growing Through Consistency and Connection

In just a few months, Indiana Trailer Company has built a loyal following, thanks to Ben’s authentic approach to marketing and customer engagement. His main platform? Facebook.

“I’ve sold several trailers just posting on Facebook,” Ben explained. “It’s all about consistency. You’ve got to post something every day, have fun with it, and stay top of mind.”

From showcasing customer stories and delivery updates to supporting local events like his high school golf outing, Ben’s posts reflect both his personality and his commitment to the community. He’s learning as he goes, crafting videos, experimenting with content, and leaning into advice from mentors, including one customer with over 700,000 YouTube followers who has since become a friend and supporter.

Choosing Brands That Reflect Integrity

Ben’s approach to business is grounded in authenticity. “I didn’t reinvent the wheel,” he said. “I looked at what worked for others, picked brands I believe in, and partnered with people who care.”

Indiana Trailer Company proudly carries Iron Bull, Anvil Trailers, and Blazer Trailers, all brands known for quality and reliability. The relationships with these manufacturers have been essential as Ben continues learning the ins and outs of the trailer industry.

“The people at Iron Bull have been second to none,” Ben noted. “They’ve helped me understand everything from axles to what customers use their trailers for. Having that support has been a blessing.”

Community, Courage, and Customer Service

Ben’s philosophy on growth and business is refreshingly simple: “If you’re afraid — jump.” He encourages others to take risks, work hard, and stay adaptable. “Things don’t happen overnight, but if you keep rolling, they’ll turn around. You can always outwork talent.”

That mindset, paired with his dedication to his customers and community, has helped Indiana Trailer Company grow from the ground up — literally. “I didn’t realize the trailers came unassembled,” he laughed. “Now I unload them with a crane and put the wheels on myself.”

A Story Still Being Written

For Ben, this journey is more than selling trailers, it’s about building something meaningful. Every customer interaction, social post, and delivery is another step toward creating a business that reflects the heart of his community.

“I’m having fun, learning every day, and meeting amazing people along the way,” he said. “You never know who you’re going to meet or how they might help you grow.”
